International traveller arrivals up 109.6% in Q1 - Statistics Office


The number of arrivals of international travellers in Georgia equalled 1,208,462 in the first quarter of 2023, marking a 109.6 percent increase year-on-year, the Georgian National Statistics Office said on Monday.


In the reporting period, 845,332 tourist-type visits were made in Georgia, 83.8 percent more compared to the same quarter of 2022.


The figures showed the largest number of visitors - 220,700 - came from Russia, which amounted to 25.3 percent of the total. Turkey was second in the list of origin countries with 17.6 percent and Armenia third with 15 percent.


The Office said 50.2 percent of visitors were from the age group of 31-50, with women comprising 34.2 percent of them.


Holiday, leisure and recreation were the main purposes for a majority of visits (46.3 percent), with most visitors arriving to the capital city of Tbilisi (559,500 visits) and the western Adjara region (333,800 visits). The body also said 79.4 percent of the travels were repeat visits.


The average number of nights spent during the visits equalled six, with expenditures during the visits equalling ₾2.0 billion ($0.78bln), or 40.8 percent higher compared to the same period of the previous year. The number marked a decrease in average expenditure by 31.7 percent year-on-year and amounted to ₾1,898.6 ($737.55).
