Georgia, UAE sign agreement on starting free trade negotiations


Georgia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed an agreement on starting free trade negotiation during Dubai Expo 2020 earlier today, the Georgian Economy Ministry reports.

Georgian Minister of Economy Natia Turnava has stated that free trade with the UAE will boost Georgian exports to that country and region.

I was on an official visit to Dubai three months ago and then an agreement was reached to start free trade negotiations very quickly. In just three months, we managed to sign an agreement to start negotiations,” Turnava said.

She also said that negotiations will continue next year as well, adding that ‘we hope it will end successfully next year.’

Turnava stated that despite the pandemic, turnover between the countries is increasing, noting that ‘interest is much higher.’

These are agricultural products, fruits, vegetables, meat products, mineral waters and many other products that we can supply to the market for which there is great interest,” Turnava added.

Minister Turnava said that the UAE is the first country in the region to join the 46 countries with which Georgia already has a free trade agreement.
