Georgia reports 2 cases of "Omicron"

Two cases of the new coronavirus strain "Omicron" were confirmed in Georgia. Amiran Gamkrelidze, the head of the National Center for Disease Control, stated about it at an online briefing.

"Both are Georgian citizens with a history of travel to the United States and the Middle East, particularly to Dubai. Both are isolated. A study of 26 contacts is underway," Gamkrelidze said.

The "Omicron" variant of the coronavirus was first reported in South Africa in late November. It is still being studied by specialists. The World Health Organization says Omicron poses a "very high" global risk.
