Georgia on list of countries permitted to export snails to EU

Georgia has been added to the list of countries that can export snails to the European Union market, the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture said on Tuesday.

The adoption of the regulation has followed measures taken by the Georgian National Food Agency under the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area (DCFTA) agreement with the EU.

The agriculture ministry said it had implemented a number of projects “supporting the development of snail production” in the country in the run-up to the decision on the permit.

In total, 38 loans worth over 10 million GEL (about $3,245,594) have been issued for snail production, the ministry added.

Georgia is also permitted to export honey, Black Sea Foam, pet food for dogs and cats, leather and wool to the EU market.
